Perry was born on the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago in Illinois. She was the daughter of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first appearance was in television shows in the role of Jackie Harris, a character played by her mother in Roseanne, an ABC comedy Roseanne. She did not consider a career in acting after reaching adulthood because her parents were afraid of the negative impact stress might be a cause of. Perry says she didn't want to be an actor in highschool but decided to start playing as a way to make friends at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry, after graduating from Boston University, moved into New York in search of television roles. Her small part was on TV shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But, her home-sickness drove her to California to find theater work. She performed on Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. The father of her Kevin McKidd performed in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie alongside her in 2015. Perry was a part of the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on ABC's show The Family. In 2017, Perry starred in an appearance on ABC's political thriller Scandal alongside her father. In the same year, the actress was selected to play a younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen version of her mother's character. The part was offered an audition to the actress, regardless of the fact that she is a relative to the character.
